Neighborhood

Eric, Dave, and Max walked around with me while I took pictures. Max is at the end of the leash!

Some of the roads are passable only on foot or bicycle. People would put their garbage in the ruts to fill them up.

The man in the shadow inside lives across the street. Every year he raises corn, beans, or other food to sell to the community. This helps everyone.

Wood, on the left, is stacked in teepee style and used for cooking fires.

This plot had 3 buildings, perhaps for extended family, all painted turquoise. Everything was neat and cared for.

A chicken has taken up residence in the wheel well of an old travel trailer.

Next to the trailer is this outhouse. They used plastic to stuff in the holes, thus keeping the weather out.

Very artfully painted...there's a guitar lower right!

I like the beautiful hand painted roses on the number for this house.

Here's what they look like close up.

These folks didn't want their picture taken but wanted to show their bricks and car.

Shacks made of wood are rare. The dog was sure to let everyone know we were there.

There are Tuck Shops which are like corner stores. People who have a little more than others create their own businesses.

All the houses have fences. This one is quite intense. It is similar to the fences of the people they work for. Notice the guard dog sign.

Behind the razor wire are beautiful roses.

This family was fortunate to have electricity. I was very impressed with how much they cared for the extrememly small space. My back was just at the edge of the bed.

A lot of people had puppies. This cute one was "guarding" a very green and lush yard.

Coke "satisfies" in more than one way. A lot of the shacks revealed other products being sold on billboards.

The Pirates are a popular soccer team. When I first saw their symbol I was reminded of the Raiders. Lee, this one's for you!

So many people grow corn. It's a staple of their diet, probably because it grows so well. They build dams of metal and dirt to keep the flood waters from washing away their crops.

These mailboxes are for the local council to deliver notices. There is no postal service. In fact, there is no postal service where we live either.

Just a small view of the area.
